In Episode 20 of the Twisted Pop Podcast, we interview actor, writer, filmmaker, producer and director Sarita Callender, aka Jade Lesyeux. Jade was Sarita’s alias while she was in the Witness Protection Program. We have yet to interview anyone that hasn’t surprised us in some way. Even people that we’ve known for a long time have told us things that we didn’t know about them. No one caught us more off guard than Sarita Callender.
As the interview opened, I asked Sarita why she had an alias. She responded that she had been in the Witness Protection Program. We had no idea whether she wanted to pursue the details of that story in a podcast with two guys that she had met only minutes previous to the interview, but we left the door open.
Sarita told us the whole story, and we were floored. Sarita and her children were victims of human trafficking. They were kidnapped by a man that held and tortured them for months. Here is a link to a news story about the case. Sarita’s captor only served 2.5 years in prison for his crimes against her and others. So he was free to commit other crimes until he murdered someone. Here’s another article about the eventual life without parole conviction of Michael Thorn Anderson. Sarita details this story in this interview and it’s truly remarkable.
And that was the first half of the interview. In the second half, Sarita tells us about her film production company – Unicorn ‘N’ Cobra Films. A company that she has built in the two years since Michael Anderson finally went away to prison for life. In that time, she has made a ton of connections, developed three projects – one of which is ready to go into production at the beginning of 2018. Here is her company’s page on IMDB. There’s a lot of familiar faces and names associated with all of her projects.
All of Sarita’s projects sound interesting. I’d love to see any of them. I can’t wait to see what she does in the next couple of years.
I came away from this interview in awe of Sarita Callender with all that she has been through and all that she has done. Troy says Sarita is his new hero. As I said at the end of the episode, whenever I get myself in a jam, I’m going to ask myself, “What would Sarita Callender do?”
